My Work This Semester

This summer semester flew by! In the beginning, I was really worried that the work load was going to be overwhelming since the course is basically 15 weeks jammed into 5 weeks. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the amount of work (reading, papers, projects, etc.) was completely reasonable. I thought the peer editing workshops were extremely helpful and I'm grateful that we had class time to work on projects. I think the portfolio we are now working on is a good way to compile all of our hard work into one folder to show how our ideas formed, were drafted, and become a final product. I'm looking forward to taking advantage of class time tomorrow to work on my portfolio.

Potential Career

When I finally graduate BSU, I'll have degrees in English and Elementary Education. I want to one day teach in an elementary school in Massachusetts, preferably in a suburban area. I used the website schoolspring.com which allowed to me to select a location (MA), category (elementary classroom teacher), grade (primary), and job type (full time). The job posting that appealed to me most is a position as an elementary classroom teacher at Memorial Elementary School in Manchester, MA. The job description states, "Manchester Essex Regional School District is a high achieving community committed to educating all students, inspiring passion, instilling a love of learning, and developing local and global citizenship" and goes on to say "This is unique opportunity to join a dynamic and dedicated teaching team in a high performing district that is committed to balancing whole child needs and rigorous academic program ." This job seems like it's exactly what I'll be looking for after graduation. The requirements for this job are to hold a valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education License, which I will eventually hold, and also a masters degree is preferred, which I will eventually have as well. By the time I graduate, I'll definitely be qualified for a job position such as this. This assignment is getting me so excited to actually start looking for and applying to jobs!

Progress on Group Presentation

In my personal experience, I've found that doing group projects can sometimes be a hassle because everyone has conflicting schedules and what not. Allowing us to have class time to work on this project was extremely beneficial for this reason, especially since this is a summer course. Sam, Donna, and I worked together to make sure we all had a grasp on our topic (recommendation reports) and then we put together a PowerPoint. We were able to go over what each of us will discuss during the presentation by dividing the information equally. I think this presentation will be a success!

Source for Document Design Assignment

A main source that I'm going to use for the document design assignment is Bridgewater's admissions page on the university's website (http://www.bridgew.edu/admission/). Since this assignment is to make a flyer for potential students of BSU, this source is going to be extremely useful. This website provides information and links to other pages about academic programs, the campus, student life, the admissions process, and cost and financial aid. These are all areas I want to focus on in my flyer, so I will definitely use this website as a source.
